Turkey trying to block U.S. military support for YPG: Salih Muslim
The Co-chair of Syrian pro-Kurdish Democratic Union Party (PYD), Salih Muslim, said the Turkish government is trying to create barriers to U.S. armed support for Kurdish fighters in Syria.

Speaking to NRT’s News Panorama on Wednesday, Muslim said the Turkish government has been fighting the Kurds for 100 years and that Turkey now wants to pit the Kurds against each other.

“Any development that occurs in Rojava [Kurdish controlled areas in northern Syria] Turkey tries to blockade it,” Muslim continued.

The recent decision by the U.S. to supply arms to the People’s Protection Units (YPG) was related to the trust the U.S. had for the Kurdish group in the fight against Islamic State (IS), Muslim continued.

Muslim further said that the Kurds want peace and a political settlement in Syria but that Turkey keeps making obstacles to those attempts because it doesn’t want Kurds to obtain their rights.

U.S. President Donald Trump approved the supplying of arms to YPG fighters earlier this week as part of an upcoming operation to retake the Syrian city of Raqqa from IS.
