The statue of the Kurdish pilot, Khalid Haidari, was unveiled in the presence of a number of high-ranking military officials and ex-colleagues.
Calling the creation of the statue as a great cultural move, Mahabad Govenor Zhizr Kaka Darwishi told Kurdpress in a special interview that the action was long expected to introduce the martyr to the Iranian new generation.
“The need to introduce the martyr was long felt and we decided to name a boulevard after him and make a statue of him, Darwishi told our reporter Halima Mulaei.
He farther said Mahabad TV and Radio center is working on a biographical documentary film, named Alfard, about the life of Mr. Haidari.
A Kurdish citizen from Mahabad, Haidari was martyred in September 1980 in the first days of the 8-year imposed war after his F-4 jet was shot down in Iraqi Kurt province.
