Abadi says his party stays aside in deciding new Iraqi PM

Leader of the Nasr Alliance Haider al-Abadi said on Sunday. December 1, that his party will not participate in or influence the process of deciding who should replace as Adil Abdul Mahdi as prime minister.

Abadi said that Nasr’s actions would be for the benefit of the country and in the interest of true reform and not to secure governmental positions. Therefore, they would sit out the horse-trading historically involved in picking Iraqi prime ministers.
“I ask for the new Prime Minister to be independent and to win the trust of the nation,” Abadi said.
The Council of Representatives accepted Abdul Mahdi’s resignation after two months of demonstrations and unrest on Sunday.
