In an interview with KurdPress, Hoshang Darwish, a representative of the Democratic Syrian Council in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, said that three members of the Syrian Kurdish self-ruling administration have been arrested in Erbil airport while they were welcoming a delegation at the airport.
They were detained by security forces of the Iraqi Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP).
He continued as saying that "This situation occurred at a time that in the last few days, severe political and military events occurred in the border areas of the Kurdistan region and it complicates this issue."
"It is clear that the KDP is pursuing a policy of confrontation and this does not serve the Kurdish issue and the issue of Kurdish unity," Mr. Darwish added.
He noted: "These detainees all have family and residence permission in Erbil and are officially members of the representative office of the Syrian Kurdish administration in Erbil, and their detention is meaningless."
He explained: "This KDP behavior contains a message and it wants to achieve its political goals, otherwise there is no reason to detain those people."
The representative of the Democratic Syrian Kurdish administration in the Iraqi Kurdistan region said: "The arrest of these people is just a lever of pressure and goes back to the events in Matina and Turkey."
Hoshang Darwish added: "The Kurds are in a critical situation, especially in Syrian Kurdistan. The Kurds are seeking unity with the cooperation of the United States, and what is certain is that Turkey's attack on the Kurdistan Region is not only a threat to the PKK but a serious threat to the Kurdistan Region."
He reminded: "Today, the PKK is defending the Kurdistan region, and if the PKK is not in these areas, Turkey will go all the way to Kirkuk and the province of Mosul as [Turkish President Recep Tayyip] Erdogan has clearly stated this, but the KDP does not understand this issue."
