US would remain in Syrian Kurdistan: Centcom Commander

The commander of the US Central Command emphasized in a meeting with Mazloum Kobani that the US would continue to stay in Syrian Kurdistan and the US support for Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) will endure.

Gen. Kenneth Mackenzie, Commander of US Central Command (Centcom), met with Mazlum Kobani, Commander-in-Chief of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), to reaffirm the US support for the forces in Syrian Kurdistan.

According to Media News, during a closed-door meeting with Kobani, General Mackenzie discussed the US position on the management of the North and East Syrian Autonomous Region and the impact of the US withdrawal from Afghanistan on the region.

According to a source who refused to be named, General Mackenzie told Kobani during the meeting that the United States would continue to work with the SDF and support the group.

Mackenzie stressed that the SDF and the Afghan army are not alike at all, as the Syrian forces are effectively organized and are able to withstand any attack.

The US general also stated that the political structure and situation in northern and eastern Syria also has its own organization and order and cannot be compared to that of Afghanistan.

Mackenzie has strongly stressed that the United States is determined to stay in northern and eastern Syria to continue its successful partnership with the SDF in the fight against ISIS.

The US delegation also assured Kobani that it would do its utmost to involve the Kurdish region in northern Syria in any negotiations on country's future.
