US will install defense system at Erbil Airport, commander says

The commander of the World Coalition Forces at Erbil Airport, announced that a strong defense system will be established at the airport by the end of September to protect the coalition's base at the airport and stated that the US special forces will also leave Erbil Airport.

According to the Avina news site, Scott Disormo, commander of the global anti-ISIS coalition forces at Erbil International Airport, announced that a strong defense system would be installed at the airport to protect the base and counter drone strikes.

He added that the defense system detects and destroys any UAV, combat or others, over the airport.

Stressing that the defense system will be established by the end of September, the coalition commander said that the US special forces will also withdrawal from the airport.

According to Erbil Governor, Omid Khoshnav, Erbil Airport, especially the coalition base at the airport, has been attacked seven times this year, the latest of which took place last Saturday morning at the US Consulate in Erbil. The US strongly condemned the attack, calling it an attack on stability and security in Iraq.
