Iranian diplomat meets PUK leader Bafel Talabani

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy Mehdi Safari met on Tuesday with Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) party leader Bafel Talabani in Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

In the meeting which was also attended by Iran’s Consul General in Sulaimani Mehdi Shushtari and several members of PUK leadership council, the two sides discussed expanding ties between of Iran and Kurdish autonomous region.

Removing the barriers against expansion of ties, supporting Iranian companies’ presence in implementing strategic projects, and joint investments in Kurdistan Region of Iraq and completing the launch of several border crossings were also covered in the meeting, IRNA reported.

Safari also had a meeting with governors-general and other officials of Sulaimani and Halabja provinces as well as several economic agents of Kurdistan Region of Iraq on Sunday.

The official also attended non-oil exports development working group meeting in Parvizkhan border crossing and the meeting of Iranian companies working in Sulaimani and Kirkuk provinces of Iraq to explore expansion of non-oil exports to Kurdistan Region of Iraq.

It is worth noting that Safari met Kurdistan Region PM Masrour Barzani in Erbil on Monday, November 8.

During the meeting, the two sides traded view on economic relations and trade exchanges between Erbil and Tehran.

The meeting, which was also attended by Nasrallah Rashnoudi, Iran's Consulate General in Erbil, discussed strengthening cooperation between the Iraqi Kurdistan region and Iran, especially in the fields of economy, trade and investment opportunities.
