No evidence of ' systematic fraud' in Iraq parliamentary polls: UNAMI chief

Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert said on Tuesday, November 23, that so far, there is no evidence of "systemic fraud” in Iraq’s parliamentary elections held on October 10.

During a briefing to the UN Security Council, Hennis-Plasschaert said that the elections were assessed as generally peaceful, well run, featuring significant technical and procedural improvements.
She reiterated that the elections were "hard-earned”, emerged from a wave of demonstrations in 2019, NRT reported.
"While losing seats can be difficult to digest, it is important for any party in any democracy - to examine the reasons and to learn for future elections,” she said.
The UNAMI chief called for political dialogue as there is a "severe lack of trust” between the political parties, between parties and institutions, and between parties and authorities.
