Qubad Talabani, UN envoy discuss formation of the new Iraqi government

The Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, Qubad Talabani, met with the UN Special Representative for Iraq and discussed the formation ofthe new government.

According to the Xendan news website, Qubad Talabani, the Deputy Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region, met on Thursday, January 20, with Jenin Hannis Plaskhart, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Iraq.
According to the final statement of the meeting, the two sides discussed the political situation in Iraq and steps taken to make reforms and form the new government.
Both sides stressed the need and importance of continuing talks between Iraqi political movements in order to bring their positions closer to each other and find a way to reach an agreement on the formation of the new Iraqi government.
Talabani called for a joint and unanimous dialogue between the parties and movements of the Kurdistan Region in order to gain the legal rights and interests of the region in Iraq, noting that the Kurds want unity between the Shiite and Sunni parties in the country and an agreement on forming the government.
He also expatiated on the steps taken to make and continue reforms in the region.
