PYD fighters attack Kurdistan Region Peshmerga forces

The deputy head of the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Region claimed that a force affiliated with the military forces of the Syrian Democratic Union Party (PYD) had attacked Peshmerga forces in the Kurdish region.

Serbast Lezgin said in a press conference that a 60-member force affiliated with the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union (PYD) attacked Peshmerga forces in the Sahila area with heavy and semi-heavy weapons after Peshmerga forces prevented 8 members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from illegally entering the Kurdistan Region.

The deputy head of the Ministry of Peshmerga in the Kurdistan Region added that these forces intended to inflict damage on the Peshmerga forces, but their attack was annulled and they were forced to retreat.

"In response to Sunday's clash between Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) forces in the Amedi district of Dohuk province in Iraqi Kurdistan and a recent Twitter message by the Syrian Kurdish commander Mazlum Kobani over the clashes, the Peshmerga official pointed out that Kobani and his entourage are not free and independent in their statements and take orders from Qandil, the PKK base in Kurdistan Region in Qandil Mountains.

He also stressed that Kobani himself knows that in all these tensions, the PKK forces have attacked the Peshmerga positions and do not value the sovereignty of the Kurdistan Region and its official checkpoints and do not consider themselves responsible but the region has remained restrained.

Serbast Lezgin noted that Mr. Kobani should ask the displaced citizens of Syrian Kurdistan who live in refugee camps in the region about their situation, but he does not do so, because they follow the thought and practice of the PKK.

The deputy minister of the Peshmerga accused the forces of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) of preventing the return of Syrian Kurdish refugees to their homes, simply because they have a different mindset.

Noting that everyone is aware that the forces of the Syrian Kurdish Democratic Union Party are operating under the command of the PKK leadership, he expressed hope that the PKK and its affiliated groups would not repeat such actions again.
