In the study announced on Thursday, Metropoll asked 1,535 people in 28 out of Turkey’s 81 provinces, with a margin of error of 2.5 percent.

Those who did not approve of how Erdogan handles his job as president constituted 54.2 percent of the participants, while 4.7 percent did not answer either way.

Among Erdogan's Justice and Development Party (AKP) voters, the president’s approval rating shoots to 90.1 percent, according to the study.

The highest rate of disapproval was recorded among voters of the Democracy and Progress Party (DEVA), with 94.4 percent saying they did not approve. DEVA was founded in 2020 by former economy minister Ali Babacan, who left the party to establish his own.

Seventy percent of voters of the Felicity Party (SP), which continues in the same conservative political tradition that the AKP was born out of, did not approve of Erdogan.

AKP’s alliance partner Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) voters approved of Erdogan by 67.5 percent.

Opposition voters of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), Good Party (IYIP) and Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) showed similar levels of disapproval, of 84.8 percent, 86.8 percent and 89.1 percent respectively. The former two are also part of a general opposition alliance, while the latter is part of a smaller, left-wing one.

Erdogan's overall approval shows slight improvement from January, when it was 40.7 percent, while December saw the second-lowest rating of 38.6 percent.
