PUK official lashes out at lack of transparency in oil sector

The head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) bloc in the Kurdistan Parliament, Ziad Jabbar, spoke on corruption in the Region’s oil sector, criticizing a lack of transparency.

"The problems people suffer from are all due to the non-transparency in the Region’s oil income,” Jabbar said.
Iraq’s former Deputy Minister of Finance, Fazil Nabi, warned of a looming disaster on Sunday if the Kurdistan Region and Iraq do not reach an agreement on oil sales.
The Federal Supreme Court issued a verdict on February 15, ruling the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) law on the independent sale of oil and natural gas was against the Iraqi constitution.
The Iraqi Ministry of Oil announced on Thursday a committee was formed to apply the federal supreme court’s ruling.
