In an article published on the Sharpress news website, Mallah Bakhtiar referred to the recent talks between a Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) delegation and officials of the Iraqi central government in Baghdad, and said that the delegation patiently continued the negotiations in the most difficult circumstances.
The PUK official added that the success of the talks depends on a balance of power, success in governance and economic transparency, unfortunately, due to the lack of economic transparency and the lack of negotiating principles, the KRG delegation was weak in the negotiations, despite the fact that Iraq was in its weakest position.
He also noted that the responsibility for the weakness in the negotiations lies not with the negotiating team, but with the KRG being responsible for weakening the Kurds in negotiations with Baghdad because it has been unable to build a strong economic infrastructure after the Kurdish uprising against the Ba'athist regime and Kurdish rule.
Malla Bakhtiar stressed that the Iraqi government is in its weakest position, but still, under the pressure of sectarian thinking, the majority of the Iraqi parliament emerges from a position of power.
In recent days, after several days of difficult negotiations between the Kurdistan Regional Government and the Iraqi central government in Baghdad, the two sides have reached an agreement on the delivery of regional oil to Baghdad in exchange for funding and the inclusion of this agreement in the Iraqi 2021 budget bill.
