Barzani has offered several posts to PUK in return for Iraq's presidency

A member of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) has revealed that the party leader Masoud Barzani has proposed Bafel Talabani, head of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), several posts if the party stops from seeking to take the Iraq's presidency post.

Incumbent Iraqi President Barham Salih is the PUK candidate for the post in the next Iraqi government and the KDP has nominated Riber Ahmed for the post. The presidency of Iraq will be elected from among the Kurds according to an agreement among Iraq different factions after the fall of the former toppled Iraqi President Saddam Hussein.

"The fact that the quorum did not reach needed number on Wednesday last week does not mean that the" Save the Homeland "coalition has abandoned its candidates, because a there is a deadline until April 6, with the hope that our brothers will accept Mr. Moqtada al-Sadr's proposals within the Framework Coordination," the KDP official Wafa Muhammad said.

Muhammad went on to add that "considering that there is a consensus among the representatives of some parties, regardless of the independent representatives and the representatives of the opposition parties, to participate in the next session of the parliament, the Iraqi federal court is trying to prevent a constitutional vacuum in the country. In this regard, it will be subject to the PUK agreement with Barzani's proposal to Bafel Talabani regarding giving several positions to the PUK in exchange for the resignation of this party from the presidency of Iraq."
