Iraq presidency issue will be resolved in following days: PUK official

A senior member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) stressed the need to resolve the issue of the Iraqi presidency in the next few days.

Ghias Surchi said in a statement that Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) leader Bafel Talabani was working to break the current stalemate in Iraq and form a new government with leaders of the Coordination Framework, the Coalition of Determination and Babylon in a meeting with the movements at the palace of late Patriotic Union leader Jalal Talabani in Baghdad.

Surchi added: "In Talabani's meetings with the leaders of the mentioned parties, the sides emphasized on resolving the issue of forming a new Iraqi government as soon as possible, so the time of the Iraqi parliament meeting to elect the president will be determined in the next few days."

He stressed: "There is optimism that the issue of the Iraqi presidency will be resolved in a few days and a new Iraqi government will be formed."
