Astana and Sochi sides are seeking to destroy northern Syria administration: official tells Kurdpress

The representative of the Syrian Kurdish-led self-governing administration in Lebanon said: The success of the pressures of Astana and Sochi and the central government to destroy the self-governing administration depends on the resistance of our people and forces against these plans and positions of the international coalition.

Responding to Kurdpress that why Turkey did not get permission for a ground attack after the recent Tehran meeting between the presidents of Russia, Turkey and Iran and the Sochi meeting between Putin and Erdogan, while Ankara air strikes has increased against the Kurdish Autonomous Administration of Syria and what does this situation mean, Abdulsalam Ahmed, the representative of the self-governing administration in Lebanon said: Turkey's policy towards the Kurds changed after the victory of Kobani and also the victory of the People's Democratic Party (HDP) in Turkey 2015 parliamentary elections, and then within the framework of the Astana and Sochi meetings and with the coordination and agreement of the Syrian government, an attempt was made to destroy the self-governing administration. He continued: Based on these meetings and the agreement of the parties present in Astana and with the intelligence cooperation of Turkey and Syria, Turkey occupied the cities of Jarablus, Afrin, and Sarikani and Girispi in 2016, 2018 and 2019 in order to weaken and destroy this administration.
He added: "Turkey has made demographic changes in the occupied areas and treats these areas as if they were parts of Turkey, and this has caused the Syrian government to protest because the Syrian government has provided these areas temporarily, until a political solution is found to the crisis.
Ahmed pointed out: On the other hand, agreements had been made so that Turkey would remove Damascus oppositions from Sham, Ghouta, Daraa, and Homs and transfer them to Afrin and other occupied areas, and on the other hand, take the control of Al-Nusra Front, which is a branch of al-Qaeda, in Idlib.
Referring to Turkey's policy towards agreements with other groups, this Kurdish politician said: Turkey acts based on its own interests and was supposed to keep the opposition away from the M4 road on Aleppo to Latakia road, but it stopped short of doing so.
He reminded: "the purpose of the decisions of Astana and Sochi are to weaken the self-governing administration, either by direct ground war or artillery attacks and drones, and the parties all believe that this administration should be destroyed."
The representative of the self-governing administration in Lebanon said about Turkey's recent attacks against Syrian Kurdistan: "Turkey was not allowed to attack directly in to the recent attacks. If Turkey does not carry out a ground attack, it is not because of us, but because of its agreements with Russia, Syria and Iran, which are against Turkey's ground attack, because Turkey will not leave an area after taking it's control."
Ahmed added: Russia wants Turkey to destabilize northern Syria with occasional artillery and drone attacks so that the autonomous administration of this region will be handed over to the central government of Syria.
He continued: "One of the goals is that Turkey will force the SDF forces to withdraw from the depth of 30 kilometers and so the government forces would control these areas."
About the likelihood of this policy to be implemented, Abdul Salam Ahmad explained: The success of this conspiracy depends on the resistance of our people and the vision and support of the international coalition against ISIS, and the silence of the coalition in the face of these actions benefits Turkey and Russia and the Syrian government.
He said: Of course, the probability of Turkey's success in this issue is low because Turkey is facing serious crises inside and one of Turkey's obstacles is the existence of Al-Nusra movement and Al-Qaeda in Idlib. The war in Idlib increases the differences between the parties.

This Kurdish politician reminded: "There is an unclear table of the issues, one end of which is connected to the global crisis between the superpowers in Syria, and the other end to the crisis in Ukraine and other crises in the world."
Referring to the role of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in fighting possible Turkish attacks, the representative of the Self-governing Administration in Lebanon said: The Syrian Democratic Forces are powerful forces and are considered a strong part of the Syrian equation and are ready to confront any threat.
He went on to add: The results of the pressures of Astana and Sochi and the central government depend on the resistance of our people and forces against these plans and the international coalition.
