Leading figure of the Shiite coordination framework Fadhil al-Qatlawi on Wednesday told the Iraq media that the Sadrist movement is a “vital” participant in Iraq’s political process.
Al-Qatlawi also stated that “We are optimistic to reach an agreement in the future with political blocs including the Sadrist to form the new government.”
“Parties must avoid using harsh language, the continuation of the negotiations is the sole way to resolve the issues,” He said.
The rivalry between the Shiite groups since an election in October 2021, left the country without a government, hitting a record of 11 months.
Iraqi powerful Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, whose political bloc won the largest number of seats in parliament after the election but failed to form a majority government that excluded his rivals.
The Sadrist-Coordination Framework standoff resulted in a prolonged political deadlock which is the longest in the country since the 2003 United States-led invasion reset the political order.
The road map ahead is unclear as parliament has exceeded the constitutional timeline for forming a new government following the election.
