Kurds will regain their positions in Salah al-Din province: PUK

A member of the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan and the representative of Salah al-Din Province in the Iraqi Parliament announced the existence of a political agreement for the gradual restoration of the positions of the Kurds, which he said have been deprived in this province for more than 5 years.

In an interview with Shafaq News news agency, Mala Shakur said: according to the agreement with the political forces in Salah al-Din province, and taking into account the demographic and electoral entitlements and achieving administrative balance, Kurds will take over their usurped positions in this province gradually. They will undertake in a way that guarantees the rights of all ethnicities.

Shakur added: "The Kurds lost their positions in Salah al-Din many years ago, the most important of which were the deputy governorship since 2013, the positions of the governor of Tuzkhormato and the directorate of education and the municipality of the city since 2017."

He stated that "we have reached an agreement with the political parties regarding the position of the governor of Tuz Khormato and there is no problem at the moment and we are looking to restore our position by providing a suitable environment," stressing the need to achieve administrative, ethnic and electoral balance in Salah Al-Din province which has many tribes and clans in order to solve the problems of this province.

It should be mentioned that the number of Kurds in Salah al- Din province is more than 50 thousand people, most of them are concentrated in Tuz Khormato region.
