PYNK and ENKS talks will be held in silence: Syrian Kurdish leaders

The leaders of the Syrian Kurdish parties told KurdPress that due to the avoidance of political controversy between the Kurdish Patriotic Union Parties (PYNK) and the Syrian Kurdish National Council (ENKS) and their supporters, the talks between the two sides will be held in silence and away from media statements.

Negotiations between the PYNK and the ENKS have stalled recently due to sharp comments between members of the two parties on issues such as Roj Peshmerga and how to govern Syrian Kurdistan, as well as the transfer of power to the new US administration.

A month ago, Aldar Khalil, a member of the leadership of the Democratic Union Party (PYD) and head of the PYNK negotiating team, called the Roj Peshmerga forces "criminals" and "affiliated with Turkey." The issue provoked a sharp reaction from the other side of the negotiation, the ENKS, which called the PYD a branch of the PKK and accused it of being a dictatorship in Syrian Kurdistan.

However, it is reported that the US representative in the talks between the two sides has made arrangements for talks to be resumed and called on both sides to end tensions and not to bring their problems to the attention of the media.

In an interview with KurdPress, Kufan Kanao, the leader of the Syrian Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP.S), said that the talks between the ENKS and the PYNK had been suspended due to the end of the US envoy's mandate and the inauguration of the new US administration, but have not stalled.

He continued: "Negotiations will begin in the coming days, but members are asked not to comment in the media."

In this regard, Galo Issa, a member of the Central Committee of the KDP.S told KurdPress that talks between the Syrian Kurdish parties would resume again but the process is still unknown.

"The US envoy has asked the two sides not to comment on the manner and issues raised between them, given the recent atmosphere between the two sides," he said, without elaborating on when the talks would begin.

The two sides are now preparing for a new round of talks which emphasize on important and complex issues between the two sides, according to Syrian Kurdish leaders.

It should be noted that the two sides have already made three agreements in Duhok and Erbil between 2013 and 2015 but none of them were adhered to them and accused each other of sabotaging the deals.
