Regional countries are against a Kurdish status: lawyer

A Turkey Kurdish lawyer and politician says countries in the region are against the formation of a Kurdish status.

"Currently, the PKK (Kurdistan Workers' Party) and Hashd al-Shaabi are in the same position in Shingal, and the Kurdistan Region, the central government of Iraq and the United States are in the same position and want the PKK to leave Shingal," said Sedqi Zilan.
In response to a KurdPress question about the prospect of a war between the Turkish army and the PKK in the border areas of the Kurdistan Region, Sedqi Zilan said that the issue is still unpredictable; meanwhile there are rumours of the resumption of the 2015 halted peace project between the two sides "or maybe some other side's."
He continued: "The Kurdish issue has become an international issue and various reports are heard about it in the new US administration. Meanwhile, the existence of the PKK is an issue that affects both Iraq and Turkey and the Kurdistan Region as well as to both Syria and Iran."
He added: "Currently, the PKK and Hashd al-Shaabi are in the same position in Shingal, and the Kurdistan Regionegion and the central government of Iraq and the United States are in the same position and want the PKK to leave Shingal."
The Kurdish lawyer went on to say that: "The (Kurdistan) region wants the Peshmerga forces to return to Shingal, but the PKK is sabotaging in this regard. In Syria, too, the positions of Iran and Turkey are close over the Kurdish issue , and both do not want a Kurdish administration there, but they behave differently in this regard."
"On the other side, Turkey and the United States are united and both are NATO members, and (former US President Donald) Trump stated he would not fight Turkey because of the Kurds," Mr. Zilan noted.
"The United States supports the Kurds in Iraq and Syria, but it is very cautious as the issue is directly related to Turkey, Iran and Iraq," he said.
The Turkish Kurdish lawyer and politician said Kurds are in a complicated situation and the unity of Kurdish movements in both Iraq and Syria will strengthen the foundations of their Kurdish administrations.
