KDP to hold party congress in may
Secretary of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP) Politburo Fazil Mirani said on Tuesday, February 23, that his party will hold its Fourteenth Congress on May 26 in Duhok city.

The all-party gathering was due to be held last year, but was delayed because of the coronavirus pandemic.

On February 18, the Kurdistan Islamic Group (KIG) held its Fourth Congress at the Sulaimani International Expo Center in Tasluja, re-electing party leader Ali Bapir and changing its name to the Kurdistan Justice Group (KJG).

The KDP’s historical rival and governing partner, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), held its first party congress in nearly a decade in December 2019. The Kurdistan Islamic Union (KIU) also held its quadrennial congress that December.

Mirani was speaking at an event marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Kurdistan Students’ Union, NRT reported.

During a press conference, he said that it is the right of students to be offered job opportunities in the private sector, rather than be made to wait for employment at government offices.

He said that officials should work to secure a future for the Kurdistan Region’s students.
