Middle East researcher Elizabeth Tzorkov has expressed hope that US President-elect Joe Biden, like Donald Trump, will not leave the Syrian Kurds alone in the face of Turkish threats.

"The Kurds have been repeatedly used by the superpowers as a tool in their wars," he wrote on his Twitter page.

Tzorkov cites as an example that the Kurds were used against Saddam Hussein, Turkey, al-Qaeda and ISIS, but were abandoned by the superpowers after these wars.

She expressed hope that these historical examples would not be repeated during Biden's presidency in northeastern Syria and the Kurdish-controlled region of Syria.
