PUK co-president meets Iranian envoy in Baghdad

During a meeting with the Iranian ambassador in Baghdad, the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) co-president stressed on the need to expand and strengthen friendly relations between the party and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the Avineh news website, a delegation from the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK), headed by Bafil Talabani, the party's co-chairman, met with Iranian Ambassador to Iraq Iraj Masjedi in Baghdad. The latest developments in Iraq and the holding of early parliamentary elections in Iraq, the confrontation with the remnants of ISIS and the relations between Kurdistan and Iraq are among the topics discussed during the meeting.
Bafil Talabani stressed that the party calls for constructive national dialogue among all parties and blocs on all issues and it wants to build trust based on public and national interests, and the constitution to be the main source of problem solving.
Talabani also underlined on the need to expand and strengthen friendly ties between the PUK and the Islamic Republic within the framework of protecting the highest and public interests.
The party leader outlined his party's strategy for confronting ISIS and maintaining common borders and bilateral military coordination, and called for continued coordination to address the security vacuum and maintain stability and security in this regard.
The PUK co-president praised the Islamic Republic's assistance to the region in the fight against ISIS and Iran's role in stabilizing the region.
