We are trying to make Yazidis' genocide recognized: Syrian Kurdish official

The representative of the Democratic Syrian Parliament in the Iraqi Kurdistan region stated that the self-ruling administration in northern Syria wants to make the genocide of the Yazidi minority to be recognized worldwide.

Hoshang Derwish, a member of the Democratic Syrian Parliament in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region, said in response to a Kurdpress question about what the administration is doing to recognize the genocide of Yazidis internationally that: "We want use all possible political and diplomatic tools at the regional and international levels so that it [Yazidis' genociade] would be internationally recognized.

"At the domestic level and in Syrian Kurdistan until today, many measures have been taken both socially and politically and in terms of the media so that the issue of the Yazidis is not forgotten," he continued.

Mr. Derwish added: "To date, the self-government has held several meetings between representatives of Yazidis and representatives of human rights centers."

The representative of the Democratic Syrian Assembly in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq stated: This year and in the past few days, on the anniversary of ISIS's attack on Shingal, people and Yazidis gathered in front of the UN office in Qamishli [Syrian Kurdistan] and wrote a letter to the UN calling for the recognition of the Yazidis' genocide.

Mr. Derwish underscored in the interview that "It is a moral issue for us that the Yazidis get their rights and the issue of genocide of the Yazidis is accepted, both in the regional and global spheres, and we will do our best in this regard."
