Turkey will present new constitution to public early next year: Erdogan

Turkey ruling party is determined to present a new constitution to the public early in 2022, the Diken news website quoted President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as saying.

Erdogan said in May that his Justice and Development Party (AKP) had reached the final stages of preparing the draft document. The government would seek the public’s approval in a nationwide referendum should an agreement within parliament on its articles fail, he said at the time.

The AKP will also shortly present to parliament a new package of legislation to reform the judiciary, Erdogan said, according to Diken.

The government’s reform strategy is based on individual freedoms, a strong society and a more democratic Turkey, he said.
