Iraqi FM: closure of US Embassy in Baghdad has become history

The Iraqi foreign minister stressed that the issue of closing the US embassy in Iraq has been resolved and Washington would not close the embassy.

According to Nas News, Fouad Hussein said that "US President-elect Joe Biden and possible Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will give priority to Iraq."

"We do not want Iraq to become a scene of tension between Iran and the United States. Because this issue has had a negative impact on the Iraqi people," he said.

Hussein pointed out: I do not think there is a radical change in the tension between Iran and the United States.

Emphasizing that Saudi Arabia is an important partner for his country, the Iraqi Foreign Minister called the relations between Iraq and Kuwait strong despite its unfortunate history and said that "Iraq has banned the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) from operating on its territory. However, Turkey has no right to infiltrate Iraqi territory."

Hussein went on to say that: "The US threat to close its embassy in Iraq was serious. But now this issue has gone down in history."

"Biden's plan was not to divide Iraq," he said about the views of US President-elect Joe Biden and his plan for federalism in Iraq in recent years, adding that "It was about a kind of federalism and decentralization in Iraq, and the Iraqi constitution deals with federalism and decentralization. Biden commented on the plan when he was a senator. After that, he was in charge of the Iraq case for 8 years as vice president."
