Jabbar Yawar reject's Sadr's call, says Peshmerga is a legitimate force

Reacting to Iraqi religious cleric Muqtada al-Sadr's remarks about the disbandment of Peshmerga and Hashad al-Shaabi forces, the Kurdistan Region Secretary General of the Peshmerga Ministry, Jabbar Yawar, said that the two forces are legitimate in Iraq.

In response to recent remarks by Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Sadr faction, one of the main Shiite factions in the country, regarding the disbandment of Peshmerga forces in the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi forces of Hashad al-Shaabi, Jabbar Yawar said the call is illegitimate.

The Secretary General of the Ministry of Peshmerga of the Kurdistan Region stressed that the forces of Peshmerga and Hashad al-Shaabi are two legitimate and legal forces in Iraq.

He added that the Iraqi constitution mentions Peshmerga forces as border guards and that there are four special laws for these forces, and that Article 117 of the constitution recognizes Peshmerga forces.

Sadr called the Peshmerga and Hashad al-Shaabi forces a paramilitary forces and called for their dissolution.
