“Holy Bread” is Rahim Zabihi’s last work, produced by Touraj Aslani and MAAD Movie, had its latest international screening in the competition category of Kurdish Cinema Documentaries in the 8th edition of Duhok International Film Festival, receiving the Best Documentary prize.
Elaheh Nobakht, joint producer of this work said, “May Rahim Zabihi’s soul rest in peace! I would like to thank Duhok International Film Festival. After screenings in big festivals such as IDFA, Hot Docs, and ZagrebDox, Holy Bread premiered in Duhok. The best venue for showing it. A place where Holy Bread characters’ mother tongue is spoken.”
“We are glad that “Holy Bread” won this award and that this festival prepared an opportunity to discuss the real lives of Kulbars (border couriers), giving us the chance to listen to the voiceless Kulbars,” she added.

Jury members in the competition category of Kurdish Cinema Documentaries were the following: Talal Derki, Syrian Kurdish director, Bavi Yassin, director and producer from Belgium, and Shamal Sabri, producer and Goethe Institute office manager in Iraqi Kurdistan.
Duhok International Film Festival, presided by Ameer Ali Mohammed Tahir, with artistic management by Shawkat Amin Korki, and in memoriam of Yılmaz Güney, the 1982 Palme d’or winner in Cannes, is in an effort to bridge the gap between Kurdish directors and those from the rest of the world, facilitating cultural exchanges among the nations all around the world.
The 8th Duhok International Film Festival 94 films in feature format, short, or documentary, in competition or out of competition categories. “World Cinema” competition category includes 9 feature films, 5 documentaries, and 9 shorts; “Kurdish Cinema” competition category contains 6 features films, 6 documentaries, and 12 shorts; “World Vision” includes 8 feature films, 3 documentaries, and 7 shorts; “Kurdish Cinema Panorama” category contains 17 shorts; “Special Screening of Afghan Cinema” with 8 feature films; “Special Screening of Kurdish Cinema” with 2 feature films heldscreened in November 15 to 22, 2021.
