HAK-PAR leader: Ocalan's release is possible, Ankara plans to marginalize Demirtas

The secretary general of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR) told Kurdpress in an interview that if the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) jailder Leader Abdullah Ocalan is released, he will have a greater impact on the Turkey pro- Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) and that its supporters may be more inclined towards the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

Referring to the reports over Turkish government's policy to release PKK jailed leader, Latif Opozdemir, Secretary General of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR), said: If a prisoner exceeds seventy years of age and is not physically fit, the law allows the prisoner to be released.
He continued: "What is clear is that today the People's Democratic Party (HDP) is divided into two parts. A part that is secretly connected with "the movement of the nation", and Salahuddin Demirtas, the former co-chair of the party, is also inclined to this position, and on the other hand, Mr. Abdullah Ocalan, had expressed willingness towards working and cooperating with the ruling AKP.
Mr. Opozdemir went on to say: "Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan wants to increase Abdullah Ocalan's influence on the People's Democratic Party, and it is very likely that this will happen and Mr. Ocalan will be released from prison. This is not in the context of human rights measures, but rather for the political achievement of staying in power.
"We do not rule out the possibility of such an action by the Turkish government," said the secretary general of the Rights and Freedoms Party (HAK-PAR). "This law already exists and if the parliament votes, it is possible that Mr. Ocalan and several others will be included in this law. If Ocalan is released, he will have a greater impact on the People's Democratic Party, and its supporters may be more inclined towards the AKP."
The Kurdish politician noted: "Some say that the People's Democratic Party and Salahuddin Demirtas, who is now imprisoned in Edna prison, are no longer under the influence of Ocalan, and the government is trying to devise a policy to bring the party back under Ocalan's influence and rule both PKK and HDP and as well as other movements that affiliated with him."
