Jabar Yawar asks Baghdad to respond to Turkey's intrusion of airspace

The former Secretary-General of the Peshmerga Ministry, Lt. Gen. Jabbar Yawar, said the Kurdistan Region’s airspace has been violated 200 times by Turkey and other countries and that the Islamic State (ISIS) has conducted 79 attacks in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region so far in 2022.

Yawar told NRT that Turkish drones fly over the Kurdistan Region daily and Turkey has targeted the Region’s borders 193 times with drones and warplanes from the beginning of 2022 to June.
"Turkey has crossed 193 kilometers of the Kurdistan Region’s territory,” he said.
Yawar stated the presence of any drone or warplane violates the Kurdistan Region’s borders and must be answered by the Iraqi federal government. He also declared Baghdad must take a legal response to these violations.
The former secretary-general said drones and missiles were a significant threat to Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.
Yawar said there has been ISIS activity in Tuz Khurmatu, Makhmur and Mosul, adding the militant group has attacked Iraq and the Kurdistan Region’s territory 79 times. He explained that 122 people have been killed due to ISIS attacks.
He said in response to a question on Iraqi forces’ movement toward the Region’s borders that he did not believe Iraqi troops would approach the oil fields. Iraq’s security forces and Peshmerga carry out joint operations and share military bases, he added.
Yawar explained certain Peshmerga forces have received instructions to be placed under the command of the Iraqi Ministry of Defense.
The brigade will be placed in areas with security gaps and the orders will be put into place after Iraqi parliament determines the 2022 budget.
