President Salih calls for de-escalating situation in Iraq

Iraqi President Barham Salih said on Saturday that it is the duty of all of us to play a role in de-escalating the situation in Iraq.

President Barham Salih in a statement said that it is the duty of all of us to abide, and we must put the country’s top interests before anything else, Esta Media Network reported.
“For the sake of the de-escalation, and our enthusiasm for Iraq’s interest and its citizens, we consider it as necessary to hold an honest national dialogue ASAP,” Barham said in the statement.
“We maintain social peace and security at any costs and will not give up on easily” Barham added.
Earlier on Saturday large crowd of protesters who are supporters of the influential Shia cleric Muqtada al-Sadr marched towards the heavily fortified Green Zone in Baghdad opposing the Shiite coordination framework backed-nominee for Iraq’s premiership.
Despite the heavy clashes between the police and protesters and throwing plenty of teargases, the capital’s fortified Green Zone was breached again by the cleric followers. Thousands waving the Iraqi flag stormed the Parliament building and stood on the MP’s seats.
This is the second time this week that the protesters breached the parliament building, and are currently setting up a sit-in. The scenes followed similar protests on Wednesday.
Barham in the statement emphasized that the Iraqis await on us to be served more, “they deserve a better life with dignity that can be able to live freely”.
