New Iraqi president vows to serve all Iraqis
Iraq’s newly elected president, Abdul Latif Rashid, said on Friday, October 14, in his first statement on taking office that he vows to become a president to all Iraqis equally.

Rashid thanked all representatives of Iraq and all politic factions for trusting him with the responsibility.
He said as president he will serve all Iraqis without distinction and work to preserve the sovereignty of Iraq and the interests of the nation.
Kurdish politician and Patriotic Union of Kurdistan (PUK) member Abdul Latif Rashid was elected as the 10th President of the Republic of Iraq by 162 votes, defeating 31 other candidates, among them his main rival Barham Salih, who was also the former Iraqi president, on Thursday.
