HDP is ready to help peace process resumption: deputy

A Turkey parliament member from the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP) says that the is ready to play its role in re-establishing the halted peace process between Turkey Kurds and Ankara.

Tulari Hatimogulari says his party is ready to help resuming the peace process between the Turkish government and the Kurds.

"We are ready to help get the peace process back on track, but there is no signal from the Turkish government that it is willing to live up to its commitments," Tulay Hatimogulari told Arab News daily.

He added that the Kurds, whose elected mayors are fired and discriminated against on a daily basis, do not trust the government.

The representative of the People's Democratic Party also referred to the widespread repression of Kurdish political activists and said: "At least one in a Kurdish family in southeastern Turkey has been imprisoned for political reasons. Elected mayors have also been jailed."

Hatimogulari added that because negotiations with the People's Democratic Party and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) ended abruptly, fundamental steps need to be taken to resume it.
