Syrian Kurdish self-ruling administration succumbed to pressures: official

A member of the Central Committee of the Kurdistani Union Party in Syria (P.Y.K.S) said: "People's pressure forced the self-ruling administration to cancel the instructions to increase energy prices in Syrian Kurdistan."

Behjat Sheikho, the PYKS official, blamed the recent actions of the Syrian Kurdish self-ruling system in increasing energy prices in the region and told KurdPress that people in the region are living in a tough situation and it was a useless and hasty action.
The official added: "People, political parties and the National Council opposed the action and officials were finally forced to repeal this instruction. The presence of the people showed that they are not willing to accept any policy."
He continued: "Increasing the prices of oil, gasoline and gas was a wrong and illegitimate policy, especially since this year was a very bad economic year and people are living in a tough situation due to low rainfall and water shortages. Also, people are in a bad situation due to the increase in the dollar price and the rise in the goods prices.
"People showed that they are not willing to accept policies that directly target their lives, and the self-ruling government was forced to repeal the decision," Mr. Sheikho further noted.
